Health & Safety

Fairfield Energy is committed to maintaining a high standard of health & safety performance, as declared in the Company’s Health & Safety Policy Statement, with the management of health and safety risk an important part of corporate governance.  In addition to the direct accountability that Executive Management has to the Board of Directors on these matters, the Board has also appointed a health, safety and environmental committee of non-executive Directors to monitor and report independently to the Board.

The Dunlin offshore installation operates according to a documented Safety Case that is subject to acceptance and ongoing inspection by The Health & safety Executive.  As oil production on Dunlin has now ceased, and the Dunlin Cluster is progressing preparatory activities in anticipation of a decommissioning programme to be agreed with its stakeholders, with the Safety Case being progressively reviewed and modified accordingly.  Despite the Dunlin facilities becoming progressively hydrocarbon free with the incidence of the decommissioning programme and the associated reduction of some fire and explosion risks, many of the decommissioning activities are expected to introduce new risks to health and safety, such as those associated with heavy lifting, deconstruction activities, and subsea diving.  It is for this reason that, in assessing decommissioning options, an assessment of the risk to the health & safety of personnel in terms of each option is vital.  As Dunlin nears the final stages of decommissioning, a Dismantling Safety Case will be submitted to the Health & Safety Executive in accordance with The Offshore Installations (Offshore Safety Directive) (Safety Case etc) Regulations 2015
