HR and Business Services

What the team says...

The HR and Business Services function is structured to ensure that Fairfield’s activities are staffed and supported appropriately in order to facilitate business continuity.  This support is provided via several key support disciplines including Human Resources, Information Technology, Communications, Office Services and Administration.

Human Resources: Fairfield’s HR function is responsible for the acquisition, deployment, development, motivation and retention of high calibre personnel who can contribute positively to the company’s growth plans.  Key activities include: Employee Resourcing that ensures that the organisation is manned appropriately and that the best person to job fit is achieved; Employee Relations that involves securing employee involvement, commitment and engagement through good employment practices; Employee Development through training and development activities aimed at improving performance and meeting career needs; and Employee Reward and Recognition that ensures that employees are incentivised and motivated to meet performance targets.

Information Technology: Fairfield’s IT systems are designed to maximise uptime, reliability, efficiency and disaster recovery.  The IT systems have been implemented using a storage area network (SAN) to provide redundant storage and asynchronous data mirroring between the offices in Aberdeen and Staines.  Virtual server technology provides the hosting platform for high availability application servers which run all the business applications.   A crucial advantage of the SAN and its virtual servers is its requirement for less power, making it a more environmentally-friendly alternative to physical host servers. Data security is a key priority and is achieved via antivirus, web and email filtering and end point security agents combined with firewalls and an encrypted virtual private network.  As IT is constantly evolving, Fairfield continues to evaluate and test new software and technologies for the benefit of end users and ultimately the business.

Communications: Fairfield’s Communications function is responsible for: the management of targeted Public Relations activities; support of good causes and establishment of partnerships via the company’s CSR initiative; corporate identity and branding activity; and website management.

Administration/Office Services: The Administration teams in both offices handle a wide variety of support needs from the provision of secretarial assistance to office facilities management activities.  This key resource ensures that managers are supported from an administrative perspective and can focus their efforts and add maximum value in their core areas.

Nicola Gillespie, HR and Business Services Manager comments, “Fairfield is a people-focused organisation that has adopted employment practices to ensure that the company is not only staffed with high calibre professionals but that those individuals continue to be nurtured and supported as they develop within the organisation.  The HR and Business Services function encompasses a variety of disciplines from IT to administration that provide focused support to Fairfield’s staff and assists them in the achievement of business objectives.”
